alec soth is a photographer whose work i fell in love with fairly recently. he shoots 8x10, but somehow his work doesn't feel as distant as most large format portraiture does to me. he can somehow get so close to his subjects without having that giant camera overpower them. in the video he says there's a distance between him and the subject, but it's a distance that's so full of meaning
